What App Do You Need To Open A Floppy Disk

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

Is the issue specific to Floppy Disk or it happens with CD/DVD too?
Are all the device drivers updated?
Which type of files you have saved on external floppy drive?

I want to inform you that the settings of Windows 8/8.1 is totally different form Windows 7 and XP. On the other hand settings of Windows 7 and XP is not too much different so the Floppy disk burnt on windows 7 machine works on Windows XP. However the Floppy disk burnt on Windows 8/8.1 doesn't work on lower versions of Windows.

The issue which you are facing might be due to compatibility issue. Do get back to us with the information required and we will be glad to assist you.

Thanks for your response. When I save a file on a flash drive using my Windows 8.1 computer, I have no problem opening it on my older computers (Windows 7 and Windows XP). I have not tried to save anything on a CD/DVD with my Window 8.1 computer yet.

I just tried to update the device driver for the floppy drive on my Windows XP computer. The update wizard could not find a more recent driver than the one already on my XP computer.

I have saved files on my external floppy drive with my Windows 8.1 computer that my CAD/CAM software (MasterCam X6) created. The files are for a CNC milling machine and have a .NC extension.

Thank you for the update on the issue.

I would suggest you to update the drivers from the link mentioned below and if after installing the drivers issue persists try to update the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Windows comes with drivers for many devices, such as printers, displays, keyboards, and TVs. A driver is software that a device uses to work with your PC. Every device needs a driver to work with your PC. So, in many cases, you can plug in a device, and it'll work automatically.

Download and install drivers
